The Rebirth was a period of Athasian history directly succeeding the Blue Age, ranging between the years of Friend’s Reverence to Desert’s Agitation of the 8th King’s Age. It was followed by the Green Age.

History[]

When the Brown Tide spread throughout the worldwide ocean at the end of the Blue Age, the last of the halflings' great nature-masters channeled the then-azure sun's energy into a creation of theirs known as the Pristine Tower and pushed it back. This event also affected the sun, which turned from blue to yellow in the skies above Athas, as well as the world-ocean, which began to evaporate at a supernatural rate.

As the endless sea of the Blue Age began to recede, land began to emerge from beneath the diminishing waves. This land wasn’t marshland, but dry, fertile soil accompanied by vast swaths of lush, emerald forests.

Among the opulent greenery, beneath the now-yellow sun, and bathing in the glow of the Pristine Tower, new creatures would appear at an amazing rate to populate the world. This was a time of spontaneous creation instigated by the nature-masters. Animals and monsters alike continued to file into the world following the devastation of the Brown Tide, and while some creatures perished, others survived and even flourished in this new world.

The effects brought on by the end of the Blue Age weren’t all positive, though. The once-prosperous halfling society had fallen apart, and those that remained of that people had abandoned civilization altogether. These halflings reverted to a more primal time in the struggle to survive, and with that they lost the knowledge of nature manipulation that had been their people’s greatest boon.

The Rebirth Races[]

Sensing that the end of their people was at hand, the few remaining nature-masters – those still appraising this new, green world from atop the Pristine Tower – decided to bestow Athas with their last, and possibly greatest, gift.

The nature-masters, who had previously altered living things through the manipulation of the building blocks of life, now did the same to themselves. They began to change, transforming themselves into new races of people, including humans, gnomes, dwarves, elves, and many others. These new people would go out into the world and repopulate it, and resume the business of civilization. The last of the nature-masters were gone, but a new paradise was born, and a new age began in earnest.
